Working With Your Doctor

Health care quality is not only about how expertly your doctors treat injuries and help you manage your illnesses. It also is about personal experiences as patients, beginning with the first phone call to their office to make an appointment and everything that follows.

When you search for doctors' offices on this website, you can find out how patients feel about their personal experiences at the various offices you are comparing. The information comes from The Massachusetts Statewide Patient Experience Survey that asks patients about their experiences with their own doctor or their child's doctor as well as other staff in those doctors' offices. Read more about the Patient Experience Survey report.

Massachusetts Health Quality Partners (MHQP) has sent this survey to 300,000 people for every survey since 2005. Each time, we hear from nearly 60,000 Massachusetts residents about how well their doctor knows them and communicates with them, how well their care is coordinated, and their willingness to recommend their doctor to family and friends. MHQP is the only independent organization in the state that collects and publicly reports information about patient experiences with their doctors.

And, while patient experience information can help you find the right doctors for you and your family, it also can help you think about ways to work more closely with your doctor and ensure that you are getting the best care for you.
